Year 5 had a brilliant start to the new term. To start it all of we had a fantastic Science Big Adventure, where the children conducted experiments and evaluated their findings. They have also been lucky enough to attend Stafford Manor High School all term for their science lessons which they have all thoroughly enjoyed. Using their learning from the high school, pupils decided to find a recipe that would include dissolving and evaporating for our cooking outcome challenge (children had used bunsen burners in their science lessons so that they could see the process). The whole class voted on Chocolate marshmallow brown sugar fudge. This involved the pupils dissolving the sugar in melted butter and evaporating the milk to add to the mixture.
Throughout the term, Year 5 looked at the life and work of Marie Curie and discovered some fascinating facts about her. From all their learning, they were able to write biographies and produce detailed charcoal sketches of Marie Curie. Children also delved into historical sources of WW1 as Marie Curie had helped to save million of soldiers lives through her discovery. Pupils were engaged throughout their learning of the World War and had some thoughtful questions to ask.
