Our Learning Journey
This half term we will continue our challenge pack’ A Real World’. The children really enjoyed their trip to Golden Orient last week, we will use this experience to set up a Chinese restaurant role play and continue our learning about similarities and differences between England and other countries around the world.
In Maths we will be solving money problems as well as problems involving sharing, doubling and halving.
In English we will continue to develop our letter and sound recognition. We will be listening and recording the sounds in words with a focus on writing sentences.
If you have any questions about yourchild’s learning or how best you can help them at home, please do not hesitate to ask myself or Miss Allen.

PE KIT –
Please make sure your child has a NAMED PE kit in school at all times.
Morning Routine
After half term we will begin to prepare the children for their transition to Year One. As part of this next step we would like the children to come into class without parents. If your child is not yet coming into class on their own you may like to use this half term to ease them into it gently. We will of course continue to be available at the beginning and end of the day if you do need to pass on any information to us.
Homework
Please continue to read with your child at home. It really does make a huge difference to their progress. Please remember to sign your child’s purple diary every time they read with you at home.
Attendance
Encouraging regular attendance is one of the most powerful ways to support children; for both for their happiness and wellbeing, as well as improving their learning in school. In the spring term our classes attendance was 94.2% with our school target being 96.1%. With your continued support, we hope to achieve our school target attendance in the summer term.
Weeks Beginning Monday 4th September 2017
Reception have had such a busy half term and have all settled brilliantly into their new classroom!!! The new school year started with our ‘Big Science Adventure’, we all enjoyed the visit from Sublime Science and investigating the different creatures that live in our forest school. We continued our Science adventure back in the classroom finding out about floating and sinking and making boats using junk materials. We have observed changes in state in ice and jelly and have loved taste testing different jellies for our final outcome… our favourite was orange jelly with jelly worms!!!! We have been working very hard in our daily phonics lessons and are starting to use the sounds we are learning in our independent work. In maths we have been thinking about 2D and 3D shape names and describing them, we have also made pictograms to decide what jelly we would make for our Science Fair.
