At Rowley Park Academy, having a School Council is really important! Here, the School Council is made up of two representatives per year group; from Years 1 to 6. One of the school governors’ describes what the School Council at RPA represents, ‘It is quite simply, the voice of the children here at Rowley Park.’
The members are responsible for making decisions, raising money and helping out in our local community. Mrs Tewley (our Executive Headteacher) has given the councillors a lot of power and they aim to use it to benefit all of the children in this school! Our School Councillors are ambassadors for our school, they are proud to be a part of the School Council as it gives them the chance to learn about responsibility, leadership, team working, decision making as well as many other skills. The children meet every 2 weeks and work from their action plans on the steps they’ve created to help to improve our school. Currently they are working alongside staff, putting together proposals on how they can help to make lunchtimes even better (April 2016).
Members of our School Council 2018/19 will be decided soon, watch this space!
